This is helpful :)

  • Cuban heel: A stocking with a heel made with folded over and sewn reinforcement.
  • Demi-toe: Stockings which have a reinforced toe with half the coverage on top as on the bottom. This results in a reinforcement that covers only the tip of the toes as opposed to the whole toe. These can be with or without a reinforced heel.
  • Denier: The lower the denier number the sheerer the garment. Stockings knitted with a higher denier tend to be less sheer but more durable.
  • Fishnet (material): Knitted stockings with a very wide open knit resembling a fish net.
  • Fencenet: Similar to fishnet, but with a much wider pattern. These are sometimes worn over another pair of stockings or pantyhose, such as matte or opaque, with a contrasting colour. Sometimes referred to as whalenets.
  • Full Fashioned: Fully-fashioned stockings are knitted flat, the material is then cut and the two sides are then united by a seam up the back. Fully-fashioned stockings were the most popular style until the 1960s.
  • Hold-ups or Stay-ups: Stockings that are held up by sewn-in elasticated bands (quite often a wide lace top band). In the US they are refrred to as thigh-highs.
  • Knee-Highs: Stockings that terminate at or just barely below the knee. Also known as half-stockings, trouser socks, or socks.
  • Matte: Stockings which have a dull or non-lustre finish.
  • Mock seam: A false seam sewn into the back of a seamless stocking.
  • Nude heel: Stockings without reinforcement in the heel area.
  • Opaque: Stockings made of yarn which give them a heavier appearance (usually 40 denier or greater).
  • RHT: Abbreviation of reinforced heel and toe.
  • Open-toed: Stockings that stop at the base of the toe with a piece that goes between the first and second toes to hold them down. They can be worn with some open-toed shoes, especially to show off pedicured toes.
  • Sandalfoot: Stockings with a nude toe, meaning no heavier yarn in the toe than is in the leg.
  • Seamed: Stockings manufactured in the old Full-Fashioned manner with a seam running up the back of the leg. In the past they were manufactured by cutting the fabric and then sewing it together. Today stockings are generally fully knitted and a fake or mock seam is added up the back for a particular fashion look.
  • Seamless: Stockings knit in one operation on circular machines (one continuous operation) so that no seaming is required up the back.
  • Sheers: Stockings generally of a 15 to 20 denier.
  • Thigh-Highs: Stockings that terminate somewhere in the mid-thigh.
  • Ultra Sheer: A fine denier fiber which gives the ultimate in sheerness. Usually 10 denier.
  • Welt: A fabric knitted separately and machine-sewn to the top of a stocking. Knit in a heavier denier yarn and folded double to give strength for supporter fastening.

Review: Victoria’s Secret: Lasting luxuries Pantyhose

I know from experience that these run smaller so I got a larger size and they fit better. I bought them off of EBAY and I got a great price because I don't think they make these anymore. They have a good feel and shape to them. They have have good color consistency. I would but these again if I can find anymore on EBAY. I don;t think that I would pay full price because there are better pantyhose for this price.

Review: Leg Ave: Sheer basic stocking in Red and in Nude

The color can make all the different in a pair of hosiery so I think that for research purposes I need to try and review all of them. The black basic Leg Ave stocking got an extremely poor rating. The same problem occurs with both these colors as with the black. I know you are thinking “why does she bother with Leg Ave anymore?” well, sometimes they have a great pair of specific hose and I want cover all my hosiery basis. HEHE

Review: Frederick’s: Black sheer stockings ( older version)

I got these discontinued pair of stockings on EBAY for $3.00. These ones were very similar to Leg Ave which is not good but I know the current stockings that they do is much better. These were a little rough and the color quality was poor and the fit was mediocre.

Review: Vassarette: Silky Sheer garter stocking

I got these for $1.99. I am usually totally opposed to this style of stocking. They just look bad on the average girl and they really only look good on a crazy super skinny supermodel. In the interest of fairness I thought I would give this style another look. Yukky, I have never looked so bad. They are somewhat silky but I can only wear them if I am planning on not having anyone looking at ME !

Review: Wolford: Baily Tights

These are $68.00 and they are worth every penny. The photo below is in blue but I have a black pair. OMG! The material is super soft and the design is flattering for any figure. I have even worn them to bed :)I have worn them about 10 times and they have maintained all their integrity. I have put them in the dryer on low heat because they did stretch out a bit but I have also lost more weight.I think that every woman should have at least 1 pair of Wolford's.

Review: Leg Ave : Sheer backseam pantyhose one size

I got these on sale for $2.82 so that is awesome! They are black sheer. They are ill fitting, saggy and not very soft. I would not recommend these for any reason ever.

Review: Leg Ave: Spandex stockings with Backseam and Cuban heel (two tone black with red)

These are $6.74 on Skimpy Outfits but got them in downtown Los Angeles at my new favorite hosiery store “Beverly Hills Hosiery” unfortunately they do not have a website L. I love these. They are solid rich colors that make my legs look awesome. They are definitely stockings that need to be part of a very specific outfit.
